"We (Cassie Storlie and Barbara Herlihy), as the co-editors of this book, welcome you to Counseling Leaders and Advocates: Strengthening the Future of our Profession! As professional counselors, we are naturally drawn to and curious about the stories of our clients. Our curiosity allows us to delve into their worldviews and provides an avenue to better understand how to advocate with and for them. In a parallel way, each of us engages in a form of leadership known as "servant leadership" by ensuring that service is central to the counseling profession and that the needs of others come first (Greenleaf, 1970). This servant leadership philosophy, which is congruent with the founding principles of counseling, fueled our own curiosity about the stories of our current counseling leaders. How do their unique stories help us better understand diverse worldviews and the future of leadership and advocacy in the counseling profession? Although in Chapter One we provide more detailed information about the organization of the book, Part II, which presents the stories of 13 selected leaders/advocates, is truly the heart of this work.
