He was known in his time as a preacher and was made a missionary apostolic by Pope Clement XI. As well as preaching, Montfort found time to write a number of books which went on to become classic Catholic titles and influenced several popes. Montfort is known for his particular devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and the practice of praying the Rosary. Montfort is considered as one of the early writers in the field of Mariology. His most notable works regarding Marian devotions are contained in The Secret of Mary and the True Devotion to Mary. The Roman Catholic Church, under the pontificate of Pope Pius XII canonized Montfort on July 20, 1947. Those of you looking to know our Heavenly Mother Mary better and to consecrate yourselves to Her service will find an abundant source of treasure within these books. A Treatise on the True Devotion on the Blessed Virgin or True Devotion to Mary is considered the greatest book on the Blessed Virgin Mary ever written and has been recommended and practiced by eight Popes. This is the original "scrupulously faithful" translation by Father Frederick William Faber. The great Marian Pope, Blessed Pope John Paul II practiced this Devotion to Mary, in his Letter to the Monfort Fathers he says: "A work destined to become a classic of Marian spirituality was published 160 years ago. St. Louis Marie Grignion de Montfort wrote the Treatise on True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin at the beginning of the 1700s, but the manuscript remained practically unknown for more than a century. When, almost by chance, it was at last discovered in 1842 and published in 1843, the work was an instant success, proving extraordinarily effective in spreading the "true devotion" to the Most Holy Virgin. "When we praise her, love her, honor her or give anything to her, it is God who is praised, God who is loved, God who is glorified, and it is to God that we give, through Mary and in Mary (Treatise on True Devotion, n. 225)." Included is a supplementary 33-Day Preparation for Total Consecration. Paintings are by Bartolome Esteban Murillo.

Written long ago, but equally as relevant, True Devotion to Mary, Saint Louis de Montfort's classic text, provides a guide to consecrating yourself to Jesus through Mary. Saint Louis de Montfort was a French priest whose devotion to Mary made him one of the earliest writers on the subject of Mariology. A gifted speaker, Saint Louis quickly gained fame throughout France for his fervent sermons and teachings. After being declined permission to be sent as a missionary to Canada, Saint Louis founded the Company of Mary (the Montfort Fathers) and the Daughters of Wisdom, with Blessed Marie Louise Trichet. In this beautifully illustrated edition, the original 1863 English translation of Saint Louis’s most popular and influential work, True Devotion to Mary—considered one of the greatest works about our Holy Mother—is reproduced to guide readers to consecrate themselves to Jesus through Our Holy Mother, giving tremendous spiritual and transformative effects. This historical devotion has inspired and been practiced by eight popes, most recently by Saint John Paul II, who frequently wrote and spoke about his special affinity to Mary and the inspiration given to him by Saint Louis’s treatise.

"Well, what do you think of Fr. De Montfort?" asked the Bishop eagerly. "Is he preaching heresy? Is he a tool of the Devil, as some people say? Or a mad-man, as others think?" The city was in an uproar over Fr. Louis De Montfort, and Bishop de Champflour had sent 3 wise priests to investigate. "I'm especially interested in learning about the True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary;" he had told them. Yes, huge crowds of people were coming to Fr. De Montfort's mission services, and hundreds of souls had been converted. No one left his confessional unconsoled. But some people had their doubts about what Fr. De Montfort was preaching. What was all this talk of becoming a saint easily and quickly through the True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary-by a holy "slavery" to Jesus in Mary? Now the 3 priests were back, and the Bishop awaited their report. What would they tell him about this unusual missionary priest? This book tells what the priests had found out. It also tells about the trouble stirred up for Fr. De Montfort by the Calvinists, by the Jansenists, and even by some Catholics who did not understand what True Devotion to Mary was all about. In short, here is the remarkable story of the priest who went about helping others become saints by show-ing them how to be "slaves" for Jesus through Mary.
