You don't get a chance to choose circumstances or the outcome--but you can change your attitude. We all go through bad times, but with God, we can overcome them. Life is hard, and sometimes we make it more difficult. Going through hard times leaves us angry, confused, and feeling defeated, worthless, and a failure. When things happen in your life, and they surely will, they control your mood and emotion and how you cope with life. Tough times don't last forever, but they are never over quickly. We must have patience and endure them. The race is not given to the swift or to the strong but to the one who endures to the end (Eccles. 9:11 KJV). With God's help, I overcame depression, oppression, rape, sexual abuse, and the loss of my mother, daughter, and now my son. My mind and body have been through physical and mental punishment, from a prisoner in a dark place to a bright light at the end of the tunnel--the body takes a licking, but the mind and heart keep on ticking. Serve life as it is a purpose because--guess what--it is. Don't give up or give in if you want to be able to reap your harvest. Victory is yours. Outside looking in, you can't understand it. Inside looking out, you can't explain it. You will win your battle if you hold on. Have faith in your creator. Victory is yours!

Mr. Apraku gives the reader an outsider's analysis of the good and bad elements that make up the U.S. The author, a Ghanian who has spent the last 18 years studying and teaching in the U.S., brings his personal experiences as an emigré to this examination of American capitalism and democracy. He looks at the strengths and weaknesses inherent in the American democratic system. Many non-Westerners, including Africans, do not know enough about the western democracy of the American economic system they are being asked to adopt as a panacea to their economic, political, and social problems. This book should be especially appealing to scholars in international and economic development, developmental economics, political economics, and African studies.

Jesus’ letter to the church in Laodicea in Revelation 3:14–22, the last of his letters to the seven churches in the Roman province of Asia (present-day Turkey), is far more than a two-thousand-year-old message to the members of the early church. It is a plea from the living Christ to the churches of today to take a hard look at ourselves and discover our true condition. It is a call to repent and to open our doors to intimate fellowship with Christ, who has been left standing outside churches that bear his name. In Outside Looking In: Jesus’ Message for the Last Days Church, Pastor Roger Bennett calls churches to examine their practices to discover their relevancy for those who are seeking a true experience with Christ. Having well-choreographed worship services with professional musicians and polished preaching isn’t what Christ values most. He desires more than a superficial relationship. Bennett writes, “Christ wants us, the last days church, to share in his holiness. We cannot be lukewarm! We cannot risk making him sick by our deeds. He loves his church, and at his coming he longs to see her as a bride adorned for her wedding. May the church do all that is within her to be ready when the shout rings out, ‘Behold, the Bridegroom comes!’” If you long to go deeper in your relationship with Christ and lead others to him, Outside Looking In will inspire you and fill you with a divine urgency to truly know the heart of Christ and to do his work his way.

Just off campus, Dr Timothy Leary plays host for his PhD students, laying on a spread of cocktails, pizza and LSD. Among the guests is Fitzhugh Loney, a psychology student, and his librarian wife Joanie. Married young, and both diligently and unglamorously toiling to support their son, they are not the sort of people one would expect to be seduced by the nascent drug culture. But their nights on LSD prove so extraordinary – so revelatory, so earth-shattering, so downright seductive – that Fitzhugh and Joanie are soon captive to the whims of the charismatic and subversive Dr Tim. Follow Fitzhugh and Joanie on their quest for transcendence, as sultry Mexican nights at Hotel Catalina give way to a ramshackle mansion in upstate New York, where thirty devotees – students, wives and children – play out the final act of a terrible, beautiful experiment. Join us, won't you? It's going to be one hell of a trip.

The autobiography of a struggling musician, working over 30 years gigging on the road. Life has its price, and one way or another; we will all have to pay for it. On invitation, I went to see a famous clairvoyant called, 'Madame Faye'. Her prediction of the assassination of president J.F. Kennedy brought her worldwide recognition. I was a total sceptic and we had never met before. In retrospect, everything she told me about my past was true, and what is stunning beyond belief, is the fact that all the major events in this book, were predicted in detail by 'Madame Faye' to me, at her house in the summer of 1966. The last thing she said to me was, 'you will be successful with your music, but only after a long hazardous journey, and you'll have to sacrifice everything for it. For most musicians, it's usually a case of playing for fun. Some play professionally, and others make the 'Big time'. I take the view, that a real musician is rarer still. He doesn't play to survive - HE SURVIVES TO PLAY. My only credentials for having this point of view are some thirty years playing on the pub and club scene and still gigging strong.

"One of the country's most distinguished intellectuals [and] one of its most provocative." -The New York Times Look out for a new book from Garry Wills, What the Qur'an Meant, coming fall 2017. Bookish and retiring, Garry Wills has been an outsider in the academy, in journalism, even in his church. Yet these qualities have, paradoxically, prompted people to share intimate insights with him- perhaps because he is not a rival, a competitor, or a threat. Sometimes this made him the prey of con men like conspiratorialist Mark Lane or civil rights leader James Bevel. At other times it led to close friendship with such people as William F. Buckley, Jr., or singer Beverly Sills. The result is the most personal book Wills has ever written. With his dazzling style and journalist's eye for detail, Wills brings history to life, whether it's the civil rights movement; the protests against the Vietnam War; the presidential campaigns of Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, and Bill Clinton; or the set of Oliver Stone's Nixon. Illuminating and provocative, Outside Looking In is a compelling chronicle of an original thinker at work in remarkable times.

Have you ever bared your soul? Have you ever tried to be so honest it hurts? Then Outside Looking In will strike a chord. As the reader on the outside, looking in, you are taken on a very personal and painful journey through the eyes of the author; Aud Clark, as a seven-year-old child helpless at the hands of a tyrannical father, is systematically abused. “They say when you experience a traumatic experience your mind blocks it out for your protection and to a degree that’s true, but it didn’t quite block it out enough for me when one afternoon aged just seven that protection theory was put to the test.” Forced to keep it a secret, she learns to suppress her emotions until they spill over into her day-to-day life, resulting in anger and outbursts against those she loves most. She loses her daughter and the man that she loved. “At that point in my life I believed I was nothing more than a liability to those I loved. I had got used to bottling everything up. It was easier than alarming people.” She pushes away anyone who tries to get close. Her whirligig of emotions results in many a love lost. Despite the trauma, a career in entertainment and a difficult friendship with a celebrity follows. That friendship takes many twists and turns, but none more so than when she discovers he is dying, which takes her so very close to the edge of death. Outside Looking In is a true and harrowing autobiography that will resonate predominantly with women who have suffered personal traumas in their life or those who have loved and lost. “I constantly try to forget my past. I don’t want to be a victim. I am a survivor like many, many others.”

Using recent scholarship in ethnography and popular culture, Miller throws light on both what these series present and what is missing, how various long-standing issues are raised and framed differently over time, and what new issues appear. She looks at narrative arc, characterization, dialogue, and theme as well as how inflections of familiar genres like family adventure, soap opera, situation comedy, and legal drama shape both the series and viewers' expectations. Miller discusses Radisson, Forest Rangers and other children's series in the 1960s and early 1970s, as well as Beachcombers, Spirit Bay, The Rez, and North of 60 - series whose complex characters created rewarding relationships while dealing with issues ranging from addiction to unemployment to the aftermath of the residential school system.
