“Echoing Events” questions the perpetuation, actualization, and canonization of national narratives in English and Dutch history textbooks, wide-reaching media that tendentially inspire a sense of meaning, memory, and thus also identity. The longitudinal study begins in the 1920s, when the League of Nations launched several initiatives to reduce strong nationalistic visions in textbooks, and ends in the new millennium with the revival of national narratives in both countries. The analysis shows how and why textbook authors have narrated different histories – which vary in terms of context, epoch, and place – as ‘echoing events’ by using recurring plots and the same combinations of historical analogies. This innovative and original study thus investigates from a new angle the resistance of national narratives to change.

The beauty of words in poetry. Through many of my adventures and memories of my family life. Have provided me with a strong need to put my feelings into words. “Echoes of the Soul “is but a fraction of what lies within my soul.” Echoes of the Soul” is a spectrum of many events in my life. I found so much joy and sorrow in writing each poem. It is my sincere hope that everyone who reads “Echoes of the Soul “will not only enjoy it. But perhaps it will bring forth many memories from their lives.

Biblical Foundations Book Awards Finalist The closely related biblical themes of covenant and law have often been debated. Yet they are among the most important topics in Scripture—theologically and practically. They address how God graciously relates to us and how we ought to live on a daily basis. In this ESBT volume, Brandon Crowe builds on previous books in the series as he considers covenant and law throughout both Old and New Testaments. The Path of Faith lays out key principles such as the obligation of people to obey their Creator, how Jesus' perfect obedience to God's law opens the way to eternal life, and what the law means for us today as we continue walking by faith. The Path of Faith reveals the unity of the biblical witness and the consistent call for God's people to show him covenant loyalty, all while recognizing the unique saving work of Christ on our behalf. Essential Studies in Biblical Theology (ESBT), edited by Benjamin L. Gladd, explore the central or "essential" themes of the Bible's grand storyline. Taking cues from Genesis 1-3, authors explore the presence of these themes throughout the entire sweep of redemption history. Written for students, church leaders, and laypeople, the ESBT offers an introduction to biblical theology.

TO COMPUTER GRAPHICS BASED ONGKS Part I gives an introduction to basic concepts of computer graph ics and to the principles and concepts of GKS. The aims of this part are twofold: to provide the beginner with an overview of the terminology and concepts of computer graphics, based on GKS, and to give the computer graphics expert an introduc tion to the GKS standard. In the early chapters of this part, the main areas of computer graphics, the various classes of com puter graphics users, the interfaces of GKS and its underlying design concepts are discussed and important terms are defined. The later chapters give an informal introduction to the main concepts of GKS and their interrelationships: output, attributes, coordinate systems, transformations, input, segments, metafile, state lists, and error handling. This introduction to the GKS framework will prepare the ground for the detailed description of 2D GKS functions in Part III and the 3D extensions to GKS in Part IV. 1 WHAT IS COMPUTER GRAPHICS? 1. 1 Defmition of Computer Graphics The Data Processing Vocabulary of the International Organization for Stan dardization (ISO) [ISO 84] defines Computer Graphics as follows: "Methods and techniques for converting data to and from a graphic display via computer. " This definition refers to three basic components of any computer graphics system - namely "data", "computer", and "display".

This book, first published in 1990, summarizes and evaluates the contribution of Martin Buber as a theorist of myth. Buber provides explicit guidelines for understanding and evaluating myths. He describes reality as twofold: people live either in a world of things, to which they relate as a subject controlling its objects, or in a world of self-conscious others, with whom one relates as fellow subjects. Human beings require both types of reality, but also a means of moving from one to the other. Buber understands myths as one such means by which people pass from I-It reality to I-You meeting. In studying myths, he focuses on the myths in the traditions he knows best, but offers his advice and interpretation of mythology and scholarship about mythology generally.

"What is Dreaming? Why do we dream? And what is the connection between our dreams and those of others? Now, in The Dreaming Universe, Fred Alan Wolf probes into the furthest recesses of the human mind and proposes a new understanding of how and why we dream." "Uncovering the mysteries of out-of-body and near-death experiences, lucid dreaming and telepathy, Wolf brings groundbreaking new research to life and illustrates how dreams link us together. In this mind-opening account, he travels from the ancient Greek "dreaming temples" to the sleep research laboratories of today, from Australian Aboriginal dreamers to the Tibetan monks' "dream into being." Drawing on his own background in physics, Wolf links quantum physics to Freudian and Jungian models of consciousness to explain the imagery of dreams and how dreams relate to the mind. The Dreaming Universe argues that matter evolves into life-forms through dreaming as a means of developing self-consciousness - that is, we dream to develop a sense of self." "Wolf's unique perspective as a physicist and his experiences throughout the world, from St. Petersburg to the Australian outback, bring to life the world of dreams and dreaming. Everyone dreams - and everyone will find a fascinating exploration of our most personal experiences in The Dreaming Universe."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. The Watts Memorial to Heroic Self-Sacrifice in Postman's Park, London, is a Victorian monument containing fifty-four ceramic plaques commemorating sixty-two individuals, each of whom lost their own life while attempting to save another. Every plaque tells a tragic and moving story, but the short narratives do little more than whet the appetite and stimulate the imagination about the lives and deaths of these brave characters. Based upon extensive historical research, this book will, for the first time, provide a full and engaging account of the dramatic circumstances behind each of the incidents, and reveal the vibrant and colourful lives led by those who tragically died.
