2010 Reprint of 1947 Edition. Two volumes in one.Benjamin Graham (1894 - 1976) was an American economist and professional investor. Graham is considered the first proponent of Value investing, an investment approach he began teaching at Columbia Business School in 1928 and subsequently refined with David Dodd through various editions of their famous book Security Analysis. Graham intended the lectures transcribed in Current Issues in Security Analysis as a way to update the 1940 revision of his classic work, Security Analysis. These lectures are from the series entitled Current Problems in Security Analysis that Mr. Graham presented at the New York Institute of Finance from September 1946 to February 1947. Published using a typewriter, these are the transcripts of ten lectures given by Graham. They communicate Graham's understanding of the main issues and perils of investing. The format is the teacher/student interaction, with Graham providing a formal lecture and later answering questions.

"Graham's ideas inspired the investment community for nearly a century."--Smart Money "Graham's method of investing is as relevant today as it was when he first espoused it during the Roaring Twenties."--Investor's Business Daily Benjamin Graham's revolutionary theories have influenced and inspired investors for nearly 70 years. First published in 1934, his Security Analysis is still considered to be the value investing bible for investors of every ilk. Yet, it is the second edition of that book, published in 1940 and long since out of print, that many experts--including Graham protégé Warren Buffet--consider to be the definitive edition. This facsimile reproduction of that seminal work makes available to investors, once again, the original thinking of "this century's (and perhaps history's) most important thinker on applied portfolio investment."

A modern approach to equity valuation Understanding the key ingredients that combine to affect price/earnings (P/Es) is of crucial importance to the investment process. In Franchise Value, Martin Leibowitz tackles the imposing task of determining what really has an impact on P/Es. The author shows why he subscribes to the conventional logic that the P/E gauges the market's assessment of the firm's future. He then introduce readers to the franchise-value approach to analyzing the prospective cash flows that determine a company's P/E. The franchise-value approach to valuation enables the analyst or investor to break the firm into two key component parts and to value those components. The franchise value approach is original and insightful, and with this book, readers can begin to implement this approach to perform better equity valuations. Martin L. Leibowitz, PhD (Stamford, CT), is Vice Chair and Chief Investment Officer at TIAA-CREF, where he is responsible for the overall management of all TIAA-CREF investments. He has authored several books and more than 130 articles, nine of which have received a Financial Analysts Journal Graham and Dodd Award of Excellence.

The increasing relevance of security to real-life applications, such as electronic commerce and Internet banking, is attested by the fast-growing number of - search groups, events, conferences, and summer schools that address the study of foundations for the analysis and the design of security aspects. The “Int- national School on Foundations of Security Analysis and Design” (FOSAD, see http://www.sti.uniurb.it/events/fosad/)has been one of the foremost events - tablishedwiththegoalofdisseminatingknowledgeinthiscriticalarea, especially for young researchers approaching the ?eld and graduate students coming from less-favoured and non-leading countries. The FOSAD school is held annually at the Residential Centre of Bertinoro (http://www.ceub.it/), in the fascinating setting of a former convent and ep- copal fortress that has been transformed into a modern conference facility with computing services and Internet access. Since the ?rst school, in 2000, FOSAD hasattractedmorethan250participantsand50lecturersfromallovertheworld. A collection of tutorial lectures from FOSAD 2000 was published in Springer’s LNCS volume 2171. Some of the tutorials given at the two successive schools (FOSAD 2001 and 2002) are gathered in a second volume, LNCS 2946. To c- tinue this tradition, the present volume collects a set of tutorials fromthe fourth FOSAD, held in 2004, and from FOSAD 2005.
