TWO ENCHANTING NOVELLAS, INSPIRED BY CLASSIC FAIRY TALES To Hear the Sea-Maid's Music: Linnea is used to being overlooked--and resigned to taking religious vows instead of making a brilliant marriage like her beautiful older sister. But everything changes when she discovers a half-drowned prince on the shore outside the convent. A tentative attraction blooms into something deeper, freeing Linnea to seek a new life...and her heart's desire. But when tragedy strikes, she must battle the most powerful magic of the sea to save the man she loves from certain death. In My Lady's Chamber: Alyne has served the royal family all her life, especially young Princess Helen. So what could be more natural than accompanying her now-betrothed mistress to her new home? But a funny thing happens on the way to the wedding... A Twist in the Tale brings new insights and fresh perspectives to beloved fairy tales like "The Little Mermaid" and "The Goose-Girl." This collection also includes two previously unpublished short stories.

Timeless tales from all over India from Bengal to Bastar and Kashmir to Coorg, there are stories that have been handed down generations: bedtime stories for children, fireside stories for travelers, who have heard these tales, wondered at them and repeated them to others. In A Twist in the Tale: More Indian Folktales, Aditi De collects forty such stories from various parts of India and retells them with dollops of humor. A friendless crocodile, a timid mouse and a vain fox are among some of the eccentric characters that appear in this book. There is also a clever princess, a hapless priest with heron feathers flying out of his mouth, and galleries of rogues. Strange happenings are not uncommon, so a nail tree grows out of nail clippings and a beetle saves a man from the dungeons. Full of the details of everyday life, festivities and food, these ageless stories have seldom been so exciting and such fun. Accompanied by Uma Krishnaswamy's brilliant illustrations, this book will introduce the magic of Indian folktales to a new generation of readers.

A TWIST IN THE TALE is a book containing four different stories - but what each story has in common is that they all have an unusual and unexpected ending. A final unforseen twist - hence the title. The first - SEA DEEP- tells the story of Pete an advertising man in London who is suddenly made redundant. Finding it difficult to get another job in the world of advertising he embarks on an adventure to fulfill an ambition which subsequently completely changes his life. The second - ILLUSION - recounts the impact on a small boy during World War Two of seeing captured Italian soldiers behind barbed wire in a prisoner of war camp built on the moors outside Sheffield and the friendship that he establishes with one of them followed by his subsequent attempt after the war to meet the man back in his home village near Milan. The third - CHOICE - again returns to the Advertising and Marketing world. As the story evolves we see how the central character Dave struggles with his conscience over the affair he is having with a work colleague, and how it affects his relationship with his wife and two children. Eventually he has to make a choice - wife or mistress? But fate has a way of interfering in his decision. The final story - GONE - deals with the issue of a businessman happily married for ten years but who one Sunday afternoon simply walks out of their farmhouse and completely disappears. Where has he gone and why? And who is the mysterious Bulgarian woman who appears on the scene and what has she got to do with the missing man? A taut "who-dun-it" which like the other stories at the end has a Twist in the Tale .
