No adult can fully understand what it is like to be a child today. Over the past few years the world of children has radically changed. There are different aspects to family Iife, and to school education. Children face new pressures and choices; they have become far more sharply aware of the world beyond their own. Children in the Way, a Report from the General Synod Board of Education, argues that it is time for the Church, in its dealings with children, to take serious note of these changes. A nationwide survey stimulated by the Board's working party has indicated the contribution already being made by those who lead children's work in the parishes. It has also revealed the scale of the task. As a consequence the book questions whether this does not demand a new approach to children's work, made by the whole Church. Children in the Way examines models for Christian education work, and suggests one in particular that parishes might explore. It looks at the way in which faith grows - research indicates that this is not dependent on age - and considers the practical implications for leaders. A specially contributed chapter sets out the Biblical concepts that underlie the author's thinking. A detailed account of the survey is given, and questions for discussion are suggested. Children in the Way challenges all those who make decisions about or undertake practical work with children in the parishes. Realistic in its approach, it provides many examples of good practice, and earths its discussion with authentic and sometimes surprising comments by children themselves.

It is written: And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD (Genesis 4:1). It is also written: And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, Who are those with thee? And he said, The children which God hath graciously given thy servant (Genesis 33:5). Granted, the Bible doesnt go on to say Then Adam knew Eve his wife again, and she bare Paula or Barbara or Stephanie or Lisa. However, since man has not proven otherwise, its evident that children come from God. And according to Psalm 127:3; children are a heritage of the Lord and that the fruit of the womb is his reward. Now toy companies, car manufacturers, and electronic engineers all provide instructions for taking care of and repairing their products. Is it not reasonable to believe that God, the Creator and Ruler of the universe, would do as much and more in giving the gift of life? This is second book of a series is a collaboration of chapters taken from the authors original book entitled Let Integrity and Uprightness Preserve Me . . . It was written to give all parents, grandparents, and anyone caring for children Gods instructions on how to bring these amazing little human beings up in the way they should go, in the love and admonition of the Lordand all for the glory of God.

Attract kids to church, the logic often goes, and you get parents in the pews. All that's left is to get the kids out of the way. Here children's ministers David Csinos and Ivy Beckwith draw on research in human development and spiritual formation to show how children become disciples and churches become centers of lifelong discipleship.
