Some students are just not comfortable with sharing intimate details about their thoughts, feelings, and lives— at least, not with others in a class or group. Unjournaling, Second Edition is brimming with playful writing prompts that are entirely impersonal, easing the way for hesitant writers while still offering creative challenges for those who are more experienced. This edition updates existing prompts while introducing 50 brand new ones. It includes sample responses— a helpful tool for anyone who gets stuck with a topic and wants to see how it can be done! Two examples of the 250 writing prompts include: Somebody’s sitting behind you on the bus. You hear only one side of an odd cell phone conversation, but it is intriguing and alarms you. What do you hear? Igor could hardly wait to get his new special license plates for his car. He paid extra for these plates: BIM- BB1. Explain the meaning behind this very special license plate. Suited for seventh grade to adulthood, Unjournaling is a flexible, varied, interesting, and, most of all, fun approach to creative writing.

An important part of the Dutch national treasure of early printed books from before 1801 on military and related subjects is kept in military libraries and collections. This catalogue contains 10,000 books in twelve different languages dated 1500–1800 from nine different Defence institutions/collections, representing both Army and Navy. By far the largest collections are the property of the Royal Netherlands Army Museum in Delft and the Royal Netherlands Military Academy in Breda. A great if not substantial part of these books is especially of international significance because of the contents, the intrinsic value or as historical objects. It took eight years to trace and describe these books, all of which have been given extensive analytical bibliographic descriptions. The book is a project of the Royal Netherlands Army Museum, Delft

Everyone has a story to tell, whether factual or fictitious or somewhere in between. Releasing these stories from our imagination and memories can be achieved through narrative writing. As with any creative writing, one's ability to show an event unfold through the use of interesting details is crucial. This narrative art is achieved with the use of pacing, characterization, dialogue, and action. This book examines all the elements needed to get the creative process moving, including choosing an idea, firming up the plot, and strengthening the narrative voice. Various literary techniques are explored that can enhance one's writing when combined with basic story elements. In addition, prewriting techniques, brainstorming, detail selection, ordering of events, style, dialogue, revision strategies, and proofreading and editing are all emphasized, explained, and explored. Includes a chapter on digital media and the new venues and tools available to writers, including Wikipedia, blogs, vlogs, community forums, and collaborative digital writing projects.

Issue-based writing is a way to keep track and make sense of events going on in the world. It takes a specific subject, whether it's one in the national spotlight or one in the writer's immediate surroundings, and explains that subject so that it can be better understood. The different techniques of issue-based writing can also be helpful for writing research papers and essays. By using the five Ws—who, what, where, when, and why—along with interview techniques and astute observations, a student's issue-based writing will convey clear meaning and impact. This book examines how issue-based writing can develop from the germ of an idea into a well-crafted, fully-developed, solidly-researched story that delivers interesting facts, quotes, and anecdotes. The wide range of issue-based writing is covered, including news stories, editorials, feature articles, photojournalism, and even political cartoons. Includes a chapter on digital media and the new venues and tools available to writers, including Wikipedia, blogs, vlogs, community forums, online contests and writing clubs, and collaborative digital writing.
