These encompass fundamental issues like navigating R&D risks and crafting a robust commercialization strategy, extending to more challenging hurdles like adeptly handling intellectual property issues, overseeing the regulatory development and approval processes, as well as coordinating extended and expensive phases of research and development. The authors present this book in two parts. In the first part, the focus is on getting ready to meet potential partners and investors and includes topics such as identifying the information organizations and start-ups need, collecting and collating that information, and building a compelling story. The second part provides a deep dive into the investor's perspective, offering insights into how proposals are evaluated, along with an exclusive glimpse into the due diligence journey. Additionally, the book reveals "Eight Classic Mistakes Life Science Entrepreneurs Make", offering valuable insights and lessons gained from the authors’ experiences. Although the book is divided into two parts, it maintains an interconnected approach. Both authors contribute insights based on their professional and personal experiences, offering feedback and perspectives throughout the book. Philippe provides his investor’s perspective on the preparation steps, while Jean-François shares his insights as an experienced entrepreneur, coach, and mentor. This bestselling book is one of the most widely used in the field by nonprofit organizations across the country. A soup to nuts description of how to build, maintain and expand an individual donor program, this book is often called "the Bible of grassroots fundraising." Praise for the Sixth Edition of Fundraising for Social Change "People love Kim's fundraising wisdom and her keen ability to connect fund development with what matters in our communities. I always recommend Fundraising for Social Change to organizations in need of a book with ideas they can use right away as well as information about how to build a successful long-term fundraising program." —Steve Lew, senior projects director, CompassPoint Nonprofit Services "I used Fundraising for Social Change as a textbook for my class for many years and often recommend it to grassroots organizations as a primer for developing a fundraising strategy. Kim's years of experience and her own broad knowledge of the field give the book heft and credibility. Her pragmatism and sense of humor make it readable and engaging." —Maria Mottola, executive director, New York Foundation "The information and inspiration we have received from Kim Klein's books have been key to our grassroots fundraising efforts. Some people go back to Proust; I go back to her specifics about how to write a fundraising plan that actually works!" —Bob Fulkerson, state director, Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada (PLAN) "Kim makes me a believer again whenever I am in her presence?be it through her spoken or written word. While she provides the basics of raising money in an accessible form, what I truly value is the deep sense of purpose she reawakens in me as a fundraiser-activist." —Miguel Gavaldón, fundraising coach and trainer, Grassroots Institute for Fundraising Training "Whatever role I am in, I turn to Fundraising for Social Change. Working with Kim to present Fundraising for Social Change workshops in communities changes lives?both professional and personal?including mine. She offers hands-on experience and extraordinary human values to the nonprofit sector, as well as skilled expertise in teaching others how to make fundraising fun and meaningful to our whole life." —Jaune Evans, development chair, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts

This book is not just for parents! While it was initially written for them, increasingly adults working with adolescents also sought help. I tried putting something together specifically for these adults but found that the content is also in this book. These are some common woes of adolescents and adults about each other - 'My parents don't understand me.', 'Why is my child emotionally explosive all the time?', 'My parents are always nagging.', 'Teens cannot seem to be able to think about the consequence first before acting!'The understanding-divide between adolescents and adults seems to be getting wider. Concretely on a day-to-day basis, adolescents and parents are clashing with each other over mind and heart issues; and no one seemed to be able to 'get' the other. Even if one 'got it', it would not take long before one would challenge the other about it.Neuroscience has informed us that the divide has always been there and will continue to be there because it is developmental. The prefrontal cortex will only be fully developed about ten years after the limbic system becomes fully functional. These two areas are primarily responsible for setting and achieving goals, and behavioural-emotional responses, respectively. The implication of this reality is huge, and it explains the 'clash of the mind and heart' issues at so many levels; specifically, rational-emotional conflict during adult-adolescent engagement. One of the ways to reduce that conflict is to heighten the understanding of adult-child developmental realities and learn the strategies that would help the other succeed. Such endeavours seemed to benefit only the adult more because they seemed to be more matured developmentally, but if we know how to help adolescents appreciate the realities, they are able to also benefit from it and manage the constant 'clashing' with the adults. Thus, this book proposes the framework and strategies to help youths succeed and includes some stories of professional youth work, where effective youth engagement strategies are highlighted by youths themselves in retrospect.
