The Courage to Grow: Leading with Intentionality shows educational leaders how to design and carry out a leadership professional development plan. It is a guide that allows leaders to construct their own learning to measure knowledge, assess growth, and improve performance. This training manual is for the teacher leader, beginning principal, practicing principal, assistant principal, department chair, district office administrator, aspiring leadership candidate, and professor of principal preparation. Chapters begin with a section called Learning with Intentionality, as defined as an intense energy or desire to grow exponentially, followed by a personal application of Caring with Intentionality. Chapters 2 – 7 include a leadership self-assessment utilizing the ISLLC Standards and conclude with growth activities. Depending on their leadership roles, the readers can select activities best suited to grow performance from present realities to ideal conditions for learning. The reader is then encouraged to design a personal Action Plan that takes into account knowledge from each chapter, strategies for growing performance with intentionality, and self-assessment results. Finally, each chapter includes websites, resources, and activities to improve leadership.

“The most powerful spiritual healer, fixer, teacher on the planet.” —Oprah Winfrey Is it the job you hate but need in order to pay the rent? Is it that relationship that you gave your all to only to end up with a broken heart...again? Perhaps it's your children, a family member, or a life-long friend doing you in, dragging you down, pushing you to the brink. If you are an honorary member of the Black Woman's Suffering Society, you have probably been told that it's all your fault. Or that struggling and suffering is your lot in life. Iyanla Vanzant says, No! Life is an Act of Faith and suffering is optional! Those everyday challenges, obstacles, and dilemmas are what Iyanla calls "valleys." As bad as they may seem, there is a purpose or, as Iyanla says, "There is so much value in the valley." If you've ever been disappointed, betrayed, rejected, abandoned, or just plain old scared to let go, then you've been or may still be in a valley. Iyanla knows—she's been there and on a bad day she's still there, but now she shares the way out with you.

Fear is a natural part of daily life. It’s so common that, often, we don’t even notice it. And yet, it dominates our decisions. Because of the value we as a society put on fear, we idolize safety, appearances, materialism, and power, turning to those things in hopes that they will lessen our anxieties. But Jesus preached a different way. In Fearless Families: Building Brave Homes in an Uncertain World, author and pastor Kevin A. Thompson shows us that, when we are led by love, we will choose: trust over safety heart over appearances connection over materialism submission over power Thompson demonstrates how, as we make choices based on these values, our fears will decrease and our love will increase.

The classic New York Times bestseller: Real-life stories from prominent people talking about their experiences as alcoholics. As an alcoholic himself, PBS host Dennis Wholey set out to collect the powerful stories of well-known people who have struggled with this disease. Included in this volume are personal accounts by Jason Robards, Grace Slick, Sid Caesar, Pete Townshend, Don Newcombe, Bob Welch, Graham Chapman, Elmore Leonard, and many more. Whether they come from the worlds of entertainment, as actors, authors, comedians, or musicians, from politics or sports or other public lives, they share the private nightmare of drinking and the hard work of recovery. The Courage to Change also explores how alcoholism is truly a family disease. Rod Steiger talks about his alcoholic mother; the Reverend Jerry Falwell tells about growing up with an alcoholic father; Lois Robards, Sybil Carter, and Florence Caesar relate their own stories as wives of alcoholics. How do you know if you are an alcoholic? What are the symptoms? What should you do if someone in your family is an alcoholic? Where is the help? Is there hope? With inspiration and practical advice from members of Alcoholics Anonymous, this is a book that can save lives. “A brave and powerful work for anyone who cares about people, who desires to be more knowledgeable about human behavior.” —Leo Buscaglia, author of Living, Loving, and Learning “Should be required reading in every school system in America . . . If there’s an alcoholic in your life, one of the best investments you can make is this book.” —Detroit Free Press
