A Practical Guide to Transforming Primary Mathematics offers inspiration and ideas for all training and practising teachers committed to making mathematics enjoyable, inclusive, engaging and successful. The companion to Mike Askew’s bestselling book, Transforming Primary Mathematics, this practical guide focuses on showing you how to unlock the powerful potential of a small set of consistent principles and practices, known as the teaching tripod, to develop a coherent approach to teaching mathematics. Organised around the major strands of the curriculum - number, calculations, shape and space, measures, and data handling – it offers an accessible introduction to the teaching tripod, a careful choice of tasks, supported by a range of tools that extend our natural abilities and held together by careful attention to classroom talk. A range of classroom tasks, each including key learning outcomes, clear links to the framework, links to relevant research, and suggestions for making the tasks easier or harder, are offered for every topic, helping you plan units of work for meaningful learning. A Practical Guide to Transforming Primary Mathematics offers all teachers a vision, rationale and ideas for how teaching can support better learning of mathematics but also encourage learners to see themselves as being capable of learning mathematics, and wanting to learn it.

The Classroom Mathematics Inventory, (CMI) is an informal assessment for use in evaluating students understanding and ability across the range of the elementary mathematics curriculum. Similar to an informal reading inventory, the CMI is an informal classroom assessment tool meant to spark conversations between teacher and student regarding the student's understanding, skills, and attitudes. Using the scripted protocols and included manipulatives, the CMI aids teachers in determining students' performance across the strands of mathematics including: number; extended work with number; algebra; geometry; measurement; and data analysis, statistics, and probability. Additionally, protocols address students' attitudes and mathematical dispositions, as well as their mathematical processes such as problem solving.

In one concise volume, Darrell Morris provides a complete tool for assessing students' reading ability. Unlike most informal reading inventories (IRIs), Morris's approach incorporates measures of automaticity (word recognition and fluency) together with oral reading accuracy and comprehension. This results in more efficient, accurate, and thorough assessments. Included are an examiner's manual and all test materials for the basic IRI (grades 2-8) plus a separate beginning reading inventory (grades K-1). In a large-size spiral-bound format for ease of use, the book features more than 90 pages of word/letter lists, illustrated reading passages, and other test materials, all with permission to photocopy. See also Morris's Diagnosis and Correction of Reading Problems, Second Edition, which guides teachers through a comprehensive diagnostic battery for planning instruction and intervention.

Operations research (OR) is a core discipline in military and defense management. Coming to the forefront initially during World War II, OR provided critical contributions to logistics, supply chains, and strategic simulation, while enabling superior decision-making for Allied forces. OR has grown to include analytics and many applications, including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and big data, and is the cornerstone of management science in manufacturing, marketing, telecommunications, and many other fields. The Handbook of Military and Defense Operations Research presents the voices leading OR and analytics to new heights in security through research, practical applications, case studies, and lessons learned in the field. Features Applies the experiences of educators and practitioners working in the field Employs the latest technology developments in case studies and applications Identifies best practices unique to the military, security, and national defense problem space Highlights similarities and dichotomies between analyses and trends that are unique to military, security, and defense problems

The Adolescent Literacy Inventory (ALI) helps teachers understand students' reading as it develops. The Adolescent Literacy Inventory,Grades 6-12, is a revolutionary new assessment tool that makes it possible for middle and high school teachers to learn more about their students' reading and writing abilities than ever before. Two premier adolescent literacy and literacy assessment experts Bill Brozo and Peter Afflerbach, have incorporated into ALI passages from actual science, social studies, English/Language Arts, and math textbooks, allowing teachers and literacy specialists to efficiently diagnose students' academic literacy abilities. The ALI provides teachers with information not only on reading skill and strategy but also on how students use these in content areas, so teachers can determine the most appropriate text adaptations and instructional strategies for their students. Take a peek inside... Includes authentic assessment passages from actual student textbooks in the four major content area domains Features alternative assessment passages for each grade level and content area Embeds comprehension questions within each passage that allow teachers and students to check for comprehension as they read Allows teacher to determine the best assessment path for each student with the "Decision Tree" feature
