Case Study from the year 2016 in the subject Leadership and Human Resources - Miscellaneous, grade: Merit, , course: MA in Human Resource Management, language: English, abstract: For many years, motivation has been a key indicator of productive employee performance within an organisation, so it has been an area of major concern for the organisation and human resource managers. There are wide ranges of factors related to management, employees, organisation and the workplace which make it a complex and challenging job to motivate employees in an organisation. Therefore, different strategies and methods should be used by the organisation and human resource managers to motivate employees. There are different needs and expectations for an employee to join any organisation. Monetary and non-monetary factors are used by human resource managers to achieve different employee and organisation related objectives. The present research works investigates the impact of motivation on the performance of employees in Ramchandrapur High School. Descriptive method and questionnaires embedded with Likert scale was used as main instruments for collecting necessary data to carry out this research work. Data is collected from the sample size of 50 where faculty members, employee assistants, office helpers, and employees in training and security personnel were included. The critical review of the literature and the quantitative analysis of the survey data pointed that both extrinsic and intrinsic motivational factors play an important role in motivating employees. The study revealed that salary is the most effective motivational factor among various extrinsic and intrinsic motivational factors like job security, advancement in career, the good relationship among co-workers, achievement sense, training and development and sense of recognition. The study further reveals that level of motivation among the employees of Ramchandrapur High School is low as compared to the expectation of employees. Although both extrinsic and intrinsic factors are responsible for motivating employees in an organisation, this study reveals that employees of Ramchandrapur High School are motivated more by extrinsic factors than by intrinsic ones. The management of the school should focus more towards satisfying the extrinsic need of employees to hold the employees for long which subsequently helps to increase the quality of the output produced by it.

Elevate Capacity AND Drive Growth Now--Without Adding Headcount Management "As leaders, we like to think we control everything, and it's just not true--externals now drive the business. Learn to let go, learn to bring out the best in every employee!" -- Jim Farley, Group VP Global Marketing, Sales & Service, Ford Motor Company "One of the things we'll look back on 30 years from now is that this no-normal world has forced a higher quality of leadership than any other era in history. Bring Out the Best in Every Employee is the ultimate leader's handbook to that higher ground!” -- Howard Morgan, Managing Director, The Leadership Research Institute "One Fortune organization once reported that it interviewed one million people annually, that it hired 125,000 of them--and that their net productivity gain was only 15,000 employees! This paradox demonstrates the imperative of learning how to bring out the best in every employee you have." -- C.D. "Hoop" Morgan III, founder and Chairman, The Forté Institute "The productivity of our workforce has to rise with the times. This book is the leader's guide to starting that process, and to stopping the self-imposed barriers of the ego." -- Chuck Sykes, President and CEO , Sykes Enterprises "Bring Out the Best in Every Employee shows you how to expand your team's capacity--without adding a single headcount!" -- Tim Srock, VP Human Resources, McLaren Regional Medical Center Are You Capturing the Full Potential of Your Workforce? With employee dissatisfaction at an all-time high and job security more tenuous than ever, today's managers are scrambling to motivate their teams, often at great cost. If you're like most, it has been next to impossible to elevate capacity without increasing headcount--until now. Workplace performance experts Don Brown and Bill Hawkins have created a revolutionary approach to energizing your team. Now you can drive growth--by targeting and empowering the right people. Bring Out the Best in Every Employee shows you exactly how to leverage the untapped asset that's already on your payroll. And they can mean the difference between surviving . . . and thriving. This is an essential road map for any manager who wants to: Identify and target the "core" of his or her team Discover what the "silent majority" of the workforce actually wants Create a personal, actionable engagement plan for every employee Master the techniques to develop the capacity of "Solid Citizens" Most important, you'll learn what drives today's workforce . . . and what employees want from you in order to perform. By surveying more than 6,000 workers around the world, the authors identified what to stop, start, and continue doing to increase your return-on-leadership. Get yourself ready for honest--and sometimes shocking--feedback. Their findings will astound you and broaden your effectiveness exponentially.

Praise for A-HA! Performance "Since I wrote Choice Theory many years ago, I have come to the conclusion that there is only one major human problem: we have yet to figure out how to get along well with each other. In this book, Walker supports this conclusion with humor, creativity, and great insight. Managers who both follow his suggestions and teach them to those they manage will be rewarded with a happy and profitable workplace. And do it at less cost than the company is spending now." --William Glasser, MD, President and founder,William Glasser Institute, and author of Choice Theory and Reality Therapy "If ever there was a title that perfectly matched the content of a book, this is it. I have never experienced more a-ha's from a book in my life. One of the biggest a-ha's is that you don't build a motivated workforce--you already have one! If you manage people--and especially if you aspire to truly lead people--then this book is required reading. Rock-solid ideas from a master on motivation." --Joe Calloway, author of Work Like You're Showing Off! "An amazingly practical and prodigiously useful resource to help create and bolster a world-class sales force, but also a blueprint for better living in general. An absolute mandatory read for all my employees, not to mention friends and family members. I don't know anyone who couldn't benefit from applying the A-HA model. The title might be more apropos if it were 'Holy cow! Where's this been my whole career?'" --Robert H. Fleet, Branch Manager, National Builder Division, Countrywide Home Loans "A-HA! Performance should be mandatory reading for every manager. Each chapter offers simple and compelling methods for building and managing a self-motivated workforce. The realistic examples presented throughout the book reinforce the steps in the A-HA model and provide the foundation for easy application to professional and personal situations." --Ann Owens, Vice President, Total Rewards Management, QUALCOMM "Avoiding a fight-or-flight reaction from an employee who needs coaching on improved performance or behavior changes requires the manager understand the employee's vested interest. Walker teaches the skills required to effectively create three wins: for the company, the employee, and the manager. It's a must-read for all leaders who want to be more proficient in getting needed performance changes from their employees by improving their own nurturing, coaching, or mentoring skills. I'm reading it for the third time and still gleaning more tips and insights. Even though it's constructed as a managerial self-help book, it's really an insightful, powerful textbook, and as such needs to be studied." --Ron Cook, National Accounts Manager, 3M
